Brazilian Diet Pills

The Infamous

In 2006, the FDA issued a warning about using products made by Emagrece Sim or Herbathin, including the product known as the Brazilian Diet Pill.  Why would they go and do a thing like that?  Well, because the company was including REAL drugs that have serious side effects when not taken under the right circumstances and under the supervision of a doctor.  These pills were apparently taken off the market, but the company continues to sell “Brazilian Diet Pills” online, but with an apparently different formula.

The New, “Safe” Formula

Here is the formula for the “orange” version of their diet pill package:

  • Gelatin – 500 mg
  • Garcinia Cambogia  – 150 mg
  • Cascara sagrada – 120 mg
  • Senna leaf – 90 mg
  • St. John’s Wort Extract – 60 mg
  • Passion flower – 35 mg
  • Buckthorn powder – 30 mg

Though this formula appears to be by all means safe, it also appears to be by most means fairly impotent as far as weight loss goes.  First of all, over half of the pill is just gelatin, a filler which does absolutely nothing.  The next major ingredient, garcinia cambogia, though it contains hydroxycitric acid, has no clinical evidence tying it to weight loss. Cascara sagrada is a laxative and Senna leaf has very little if any ties to any medical benefit.

The most promising ingredients, though they have nothing to do with weight loss, are St. John’s Wort and Passion Flower, which may help improve a sense of well being.

Worth the Risk?

Honestly, Brazilian Diet Pills, or any product sold by these companies are probably more a risk in terms of not having any effect rather than some serious drug side effect, as it is assumed that all of the drugs were taken out of them after the FDA warning.  Even so, you can’t be too careful.  The most ridiculous thing about this product is that it can’t be bought separately, only in a package with another even less effective product for a grand total of $100.  This product is a waste of your (and my) time.
