The One a Day “Feel Good” Fat Burner

From Maximum Human Performance, Dren is a diet pill claiming the most “Advanced Pharmocological Approach to Fat Annihilation”.  “Dren” is definitely the shortest diet pill name I’ve ever seen, so I was curious about the choice.  Usually diet pills go for something more obviously “technical” like “Hexodiaxapratinidol” or maybe something more friendly like “Happy Fat Burner Caps”.

Turns out “Dren” refers to Drenbuterol, which is a 409 mg patented blend of

  • Caffeine
  • Hydroxytryptophan
  • Beta Phenylethylamine
  • Yohimbine

Now, we all know that caffeine boosts your metabolism and energy levels, but perhaps you may not know as much about the last three ingredients.  Hydroxytryptophan and Beta Phenylethylamine have shown some promise at increasing levels of dopamine in the brain, thereby increasing a sense of “well-being”.  This however may be counteracted by yohimbine, which as been known to cause anxiety attacks in some cases.  Needless to say, the last three have very little to do with weight loss.  You are really not getting much for your $40.

So, What’s in a name?

Back to why I made such a big deal about the name of this product.  It was very obviously chosen to imitate “clenbuterol”, which is a powerful stimulant similar to ephedrine which may significantly boost metabolism and energy.  In reality this product has nothing to do with clenbuterol.

Dren Conclusions

As I said before, for $40 you’re really not getting much.  You can get caffeine anywhere for much cheaper and there isn’t enough evidence about the other ingredients for me to really say they are a good option for weight loss (or for mood enhancement).  They are common in many diet products, but as they are the only other ingredients here,  I do not recommend Dren.
