HumaPro: Does it Live Up to the Hype?
ALR Industries, the makers of HumaPro, do quite a good job of hyping up HumaPro as the ultimate diet supplement for gaining muscle. The primary way in which HumaPro claims to be better than any other protein supplement is the fact that it only contains amino acids your body can use, as opposed to a lot of other components in whey/soy protein that just end up in the toilet. According to the company, 99% of HumaPro gets absorbed and used by your body whereas only 1% of soy or whey protein actually help you.
While this sounds pretty fantastic, the chances of 99% of any food being completely absorbed by your body is extremely low. That being said, HumaPro may still be a great way of supplementing essential amino acids. You’ll just be paying a little too much for it. As well, this is not a diet supplement that is likely to help you to get more cut (lose fat) as you’re bulking up.
How Does HumaPro Work?
HumaPro contains a ”patent pending, one of a kind protein matrix that we started working on in 1998.” This uses 8 essential amino acid (EAAs), which can’t be synthesized by the body (hence the “essential” part). The company claims that their formulation takes into account the exact “enzymatic conversion of, and utilization rates for, all amino acids the body needs for optimal health.”
They make the claim that if you removed “even one of the EAAs for even one day from your diet for the day your body would utilize none of the protein you take in?” This is not really true, but it is the case that your body needs a variety of amino acids to build proteins. While HumaPro insists that you must have the exact blance of amino acids to use protein, the truth is that it only helps a little bit more to take all these amino acids in this ratio at the same time.
HumaPro Side Effects
While there are no apparent side effects from these ingredients, some users have experienced feeling weak and nauseous with regular use of HumaPro. However, this does not seem to be common for this kind of diet supplement.
HumaPro Ingredient Highlights
The three main components of HumaPro are the EAA’s, a blend for improved nutrient uptake (which is basically unproven) and some vitamins:
- “Nanosized Essential Amino Acid IR Proprietary Matrix” (5.15 g): Essential amino acids including Leucine, Valine, Isoleucine, Lysine, Phenyl Alanine, Threonine, Methione, Tryptohan, Leucine Malate
- “Extended Time Release Proprietary Anti-Catabolic and Insulingenic Matrix” (210 mg): Bitter Melon Fractional Extract, Coffee Bean Concentrate
- Vitamin Complex: Vitamin B-1 (0.7 mg), Vitamin B-3 (9 mg), Vitamin B-6 (1 mg), Vitamin B-12 (1.5 mcg), Magnesium Citrate (87.5 mg), Calcium Carbonate (175 mg)
Should You Try HumaPro?
Whether or not you should invest in a pricey diet supplement like HumaPro depends on a few things. First, do you believe everything the company says? We don’t. Second, are you willing to pay more for a product which may only be marginally better than a generic protein supplement? Last, do you want a diet supplement that doesn’t have anything in it for weight loss? If you answered yes to those three questions, you should try it. If not, check out a diet supplement that more consumers have found useful.
