Editors' Top Pick of 2012

Do we ever rate a diet pill positively? Yes. Although it's rare, there are a few diet pills that meet our strict recommendation requirements. Why don't we recommend Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches? We're looking for clinically proven ingredients, money back guarantees and low prices. Apidexin is our favorite. Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches: Do they Live Up to the Hype?

Sold by Slimming Solutions, a British diet supplement company, Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches definitely have no shortage of hype about them – some of it rather bold. With these patches, containing only one type of seaweed extract, you can supposedly stimulate your metabolic rate, suppress your appetite and get a “brilliant energy boost”. It is also claimed you can “just stick it on and watch the weight fall off” with this diet supplement.

The company does clarify that you may expect to lose between 2-4 pounds per week by using Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches, but even this would be pretty impressive for just a patch.  Looking into the formula and research (or rather lack thereof) on the main ingredient, we have to say we’re pretty skeptical about these claims. Considering the price they’re asking, you should probably be skeptical too.

How Do Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches Work?

According to the makers of Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches, they secrete a

“fucus extract into your body through the skin, ensuring you receive 100% of the seaweed slimming formula each and every day compared to a tiny percentage when taken orally. This diet patch extract makes your body feel full all the time, so in most cases, users eat less at meal times and don’t snack in between, encouraging natural weight loss.”

First of all, there is no basis whatsoever for the idea that you could absorb chemicals better through your skin better than through your stomach. Next, the “seaweed slimming formula” amounts to only one type of common seaweed called bladder wrack, which is known primarily for its iodine content.  It also contains an herbal laxative which may promote water loss, which is not a healthy way of losing weight.  There is nothing about Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches that would make you feel “full all the time”, so we don’t know where they came up with that.  While the extra iodine may slightly accelerate your metabolism, this is definitely not the safest or most effective way to burn extra calories.

Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches Side Effects

Due to the high concentration of iodine in their main ingredient, Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches may pose a health risk to those with thyroid problems. Part of their weight loss strategy is to supposedly accelerate the metabolism by stimulating the thyroid with iodine, but this can sometimes lead to serious long-term problems. If you are contemplating pregnancy or are pregnant or nursing, you should not use these as a diet supplement. Lastly, assuming all chemicals from bladderwrack are absorbed, you may experience some loose stool or diarrhea.

Aside from these concerns, the only side effect most people might experience is discomfort from wearing the patch and slight redness or irritation on the placement area.

Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches Ingredient Highlights

As mentioned, the only ingredient in these diet supplement patches is 5 mg of fucus vesiculosus (bladder wrack). This was the original source from which iodine was extracted in large quantities. As it is a sea plant, it can also sometimes absorb some heavy metals (not a good thing).

Should You Try Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches?

One box of Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches contains 42 patches (6 weeks worth) and is priced at 40 GBP ($64).  These diet supplements are only sold direct from Great Britain, so international shipping costs are going to hike up you total cost for one box to at least $82. Given that they contain only one ingredient, have no reliable evidence for being effective and that they do not come with a satisfaction guarantee, we don’t recommend trying Seaweed Natural Weight Loss Patches.  There are just too many other domestic diet supplements that fare better in price and proven results.
