Qnexa Review

The company that manufactures Qnexa, Vivus Inc., found that by combining two known drugs they could produce greater weight loss than when individuals took them separately. Testing began several years ago and Qnexa has shown in several studies that it is a powerful obesity drug.

The nice thing about a prescription drug that has to be vetted by the FDA is you get extensive research into the effectiveness of the product. Unlike herbal diet supplements that do not have any regulatory body overseeing their manufacture, prescription drugs must endure years of clinical trials to prove they do what they say they will do.

How Does Qnexa Work?

Essentially Qnexa is an appetite suppressant. In several clinical studies, Qnexa was found to contribute to a total weight loss between 10% and 15% for most users. By combining two powerful drugs, the makers of Qnexa found appetite could be controlled much more effectively than if either drug were taken alone. Of course when a person is able to control appetite, they can control the intake of calories. Fewer calories means less food being stored as fat around the midsection. For people who struggled with obesity, significant weight loss is common when using the product over the span of a year.

Qnexa Side-effects

As would be expected, there are some serious side effects to consider when you investigate Qnexa as a weight loss drug. This is not a supplement, but a pharmaceutical grade drug and has to be treated completely differently. The side-effects that gave the FDA investigators the most trouble were depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, attention, memory, language and other cognitive disorders, metabolic acidosis, increased heart rate, and teratogenicity. Any of these side-effects could pose a serious threat to your overall health and even your life.

Qnexa Ingredient Highlights

As I mentioned, Qnexa is a combination of two different drugs. The diet drug Phentermine, known by its brand name Apidex, has been used for some time now with satisfactory results. The second compound is an anti-convulsant used primarily in epilepsy patients called Topiramate and sold as Topamax. Both of these drugs have been approved by the FDA while the combination, Qnexa, has not.

Should You Try Qnexa?

This really isn’t for me to say since the FDA rejected Qnexa in July of last year. There are probably places around the world that you could find Qnexa but it is not legally sold here in the United States, and for good reason. The panel denied Vivus Inc.’s petition to have Qnexa sold in the US due to health concerns and not because it didn’t work. The FDA isn’t always right on-course but when you read the possible side effects listed above, you are better off trusting the FDA and leaving this particular drug alone and opting for a legal substitute.
